‘This is inhumane!’ Chicago charter schools are blasted over reports that girls are menstruating THROUGH their uniform pants because their bathroom breaks are so severely restricted

Female high school students from a network of charter schools in Chicago are reportedly bleeding through their uniforms because strict bathroom policies prevent them from going to the toilet when necessary.

At Noble Network of Charter Schools, bathroom breaks are so limited, girls are stuck bleeding through their pants because they don’t get enough opportunities to change their sanitary napkins or tampons regularly enough.

Since the number of students bleeding through their pants was so high, the administration of the 16 schools sent out a school-wide email with a bizarre solution – students would be allowed to tie a Noble sweatshirt around their waist if they bled.

Charter schools are funded by the government with many students coming from under-privileged families and according to NPR Illinois, more than 58 per cent of students don’t have laundry machines at their homes.

Students not having a washing machine in their house makes the situation even worse because once the students stain their clothes, they have no way of washing them.

One teacher spoke to NPR anonymously through text message and had some of her students text through her phone as well.

A female student shared the bathroom situation at school revealing, ‘We have bathroom escorts and they rarely come so we end up walking out of class and that gets us in trouble.

‘But who wants to walk around knowing there’s blood on them? It can still stain the seats. They just need to be more understanding,’ the girl continued.

Some schools are slightly more understanding of the situation allowing kids to wear a Noble sweater around their waist but make it even more shameful for the students.

Shaming students even more for menstruating, the faculty sends an email out to everyone revealing the name of the girl who gets permission to wear her sweater so that the rest of the staff knows not to give her detention for violating the dress code if she’s seen wearing it.

After news got out that these charter schools were treating their students so horribly, people took to the internet to share their disgust.

‘WTF is wrong with these people?’ one man wrote while someone else commented, ‘Never once in college or any job I’ve had has someone limited my bathroom breaks or forced me to bleed through my pants.’

‘I can’t wrap my head around why this would ever be a policy… anywhere,’ another user commented.

A very annoyed man told all of the female students to revolt writing, ‘Girls, refuse the hoodie offer! Make everyone look at the blood. Do not join in on the cover up. Make them all see you are women and need a damn bathroom whenever you have your period. Period.’

‘How is this an okay way to treat children?’ one person asked while someone else shared, ‘Imagine being a menstruating teenager and having an email being sent out to the school’s entire staff about that fact.’

‘This is inhumane and treats them like prisoners,’ one woman exclaimed while another wrote: ‘They need to be treated like human beings with dignity and respect and allowed to go to the bathroom instead of having their every move policed.’

‘Just when I thought I’d finished reading all the horrifying things on the internet today…,’ one woman wrote in regard to the horrible news.

Meanwhile two people were absolutely disgusted as one woman wrote, ‘This is horrific, shameful, and unnecessary,’ while another said: ‘Nothing noble at Noble.’

‘What kind of adult world is this preparing them for?’ a very confused user asked while another woman suggested a solution: ‘This is abuse and a hygiene issue.

‘Also they could give out free tampons and pads and install a washer and dryer at the school since so many kids don’t have them at home.’

Although students are still facing these issues every day, some changes are slowly being made.

In October of last year two teachers from the Noble Pritzker College Prep campus helped their female students convince the administration to switch the uniform to black pants instead of khakis and it worked.
