Chapels reborn as cabarets, cheese plants and rock-star shrines

Night peering through the stained-glass windows, the dancer preens like a burlesque black swan at what was once the Mackenzie Memorial Gospel Church in Stratford, Ont.

It’s the SIN Burlesque Erotic Cabaret at the Revival House, and the hall known as “the sanctuary” is packed to the refurbished pews.

In a sultry feathered fan dance, the performer sheds her avian-inspired leather getup, tufts of plumage falling to the floor, until all that remains is downy lingerie.

This playful tension between the sacred and the sensuous is one of the selling points of the Revival House, said Rob Wigan, who co-owns the cathedral-turned-venue with his wife.

“We’re kind of playing off that contradiction,” said Wigan. “I often wonder if somebody is having too good of a time, would they look up and think, ‘Uh oh. I don’t know if I should be doing this in here.”‘

The cultural destination is one of scores of shuttered churches across the country that have been resurrected as public monuments to secular devotions ranging from cheese making to rock ‘n’ roll idolatry.

According to the U.S.-based Pew Research Centre, roughly one-in-four Canadian adults surveyed said they attended religious services at least once a month in 2010, a drop of 16 percentage points over 25 years.

While experts say these ministerial makeovers reflect Canada’s shrinking and shifting congregations, Wigan insisted that the 19th-century Gothic cathedral has retained many of its soul-fulfilling functions in its current incarnation.

Rather than offering communion, he said the venue fosters spiritual connections through communal experiences, playing host to glitter-spackled drag shows, wedding bashes for big-city brides and pre-theatre cocktails at its bar backed by dark-wood organ pipes.

“Part of our story is bringing that element of community back to this beautiful place of worship, and place of gathering that kind of lost its touch,” he said. “There’s a spiritual element to it without it being incredibly religious.”

Roman Panchyshyn, owner of Wild Planet Music in Winnipeg’s Osborne Village, has a more irreverent take on his business’s hallowed heritage.

The sprawling store is a retail shrine to Panchyshyn’s rock-star idols, lined with rows upon rows of records and blasphemous musical memorabilia, including a T-shirt that reads: “Smile, Satan loves you.”

“It’s a place of worship, but it’s rock ‘n’ roll worship rather than religious,” said Panchyshyn. “If people have disapproved, it’s been nothing harsh … because I’d have to send them to confession.

“You’re being watched in here by Axl Rose, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin.”

The Theatre Paradoxe, formerly the Notre-Dame-du-Perpetuel-Secours in southwest Montreal, boasts an eclectic events calendar, renting out space for wrestling showdowns, crucifix-themed kink parties and recovery sessions from the Burning Man desert cultural retreat.

But for director Gerald St-Georges, these off-kilter affairs serve to fund what he sees as the theatre’s higher mission: providing at-risk youth with technical theatre training to help keep them off the streets and in the workforce.

“We do the same work the church did before in the sense that it’s for the community,” said St-Georges. “I don’t think we need to take the church’s place, I just think we keep doing the best side of the church in the way of helping people.”

According to the Quebec Religious Heritage Council, 547 churches in the province have been closed, sold or transformed as of April. The provincial government has allocated $15 million in funding for restoration projects this fiscal year.

Church-flippers have turned this towering real estate into high-wire enterprises like a rock-climbing gym in Sherbrooke, a circus school in Limoilou and an indoor “vertical farming” startup in Saint-Pacome.

In Ontario, only half of an estimated 12,000 historically religious properties still serve as places of worship, according to provincial heritage officials.

In some areas, these buildings have been converted into temples of self-care, offering services at a spa in suburban Ottawa, a naturopathic clinic in Aurora and a yoga studio in Wellington.

But in cities with sky-high housing markets like Toronto, a number of defunct churches have been retrofitted into luxury residences, said urban geographer Jason Hackworth.

In a 2013 study, the University of Toronto professor found that 23 places of worship had been sold, gutted or torn down, and with 10 more projects underway at the time, he assumes that number has since climbed.

He said these religious developments can pit a community’s conservationist instincts against the desires of congregants, some of whom would rather their church be razed than stripped down to its artifice and turned into a “yuppie playground.”

That hasn’t been the case at the Star of the Sea Bed and Breakfast in Fergusons Cove, N.S., said manager Eva Kroger.

Having spared the ocean-side chapel from the wrecking ball, Kroger said former parishioners are grateful they can book a room in the building where they were baptized or travel back to their wedding night on an anniversary vacation.

These are the milestones scattered among the debris when a house of prayer is dismantled, said David Deane, a Roman Catholic teacher at Halifax’s Atlantic School of Theology.

From a theological perspective, Deane said a church is not confined to its brick walls. But these buildings bear witness to people’s lives, shape and are shaped by communities, and the loss of these connections can devastate a congregation.

“There’s massive trauma in the community, even for people who don’t necessarily go,” he said.

“It’s a trauma of memory, and community and location. It also, I think, leaves the spectre of a changing world towards an uncertain future.”

Despite this existential unease among worshippers, churches have to face the fact that Canada’s religious landscape is shifting, said Deane.

While some parishes are declining, Deane said, other churches are growing rapidly, particularly in immigrant communities. He said churches would be wise to embrace a spiritual “entrepreneurship” that is less rigid about denominational divides, catering their services to better reflect the social and spiritual needs of today’s congregations.

Fourth-generation dairy farmer Jean Morin could be at the forefront of such a devotional disruption, having brokered an unlikely pairing between church and cheese in his hometown of Sainte-Elizabeth-de-Warwick, a village of 400 in central Quebec.

Having purchased the property for $1, the owner of La Fromagerie du Presbytere spent an additional $1.2 million to transform the church into a multi-purpose facility that could accommodate 40 congregants and tens of thousands of tonnes of ripening cheeses.

While some parishioners have bristled at the strange subdivision, Morin said the symbiotic setup has given the church “a second life.”

“I have the benediction of the community,” he said. “It’s very important for me to keep the heart of the village.”

Police descend on fist-swinging Markham protest against ‘illegal border crossers’

At least a dozen police vehicles and two dozen officers had to be called in to Markham Civic Centre Saturday afternoon after a demonstration between those opposed to “illegal border-crossers” and those who support refugees and migrants turned violent.

The groups, made up almost entirely of Chinese-Canadian citizens, appeared to be voicing their displeasure after they say they heard that Mayor Frank Scarpitti supports having Markham co-ordinate with the York Catholic District School Board to host as many as up to 5,000 refugees or migrants at unused buildings in Markham.

But a recent meeting between Scarpitti and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and a statement Scarpitti released in the wake of that meeting does not mention the topic.

During the demonstration, which included some people draped in Canadian flags and holding signs that said: “Markham say no to illegal border crossers” and “Illegal free boat riders are not welcome,” as well as “Defend our borders,” punches were thrown between rivals in the two groups and the police were called to calm down the screaming people.

Other signs said: “Love Markham, Save Markham,” “Not in My Backyard” and “Say No to Mayor Frank.”

Others held signs that said: “Refugees Welcome,” and chanted, “No hate, no fear, refugees are welcome here.”

A woman on a megaphone incited the crowd with a speech in Chinese.

They also chanted in English: “We are Canadians, we love Canada” and also chanted “Go home, go home, go home.”

After police arrived on the scene, a police spokesman said the demonstrators appeared to calm down somewhat and after some speeches, the crowd reportedly dispersed. No arrests were made police said.

The mayor’s office released a statement Sunday attempting to clear the air saying, “nothing has been finalized (on the issue of house asylum seekers) as options are very limited regarding any Markham locations being used for temporary housing and there is no update at this time. “

The mayor did admit to having discussions with Toronto Mayor John Tory during an “urgent call” earlier this month with other large city mayors about the temporary housing shortage issue in the City of Toronto due to the increase in asylum seekers. And he said in the statement that “Tory requested that municipalities identify any sites or facilities that could be repurposed as temporary housing, as well as connections to employers for job opportunities. Mayors from across the province offered their support including examining existing capacity within their shelter systems, potential temporary housing sites and facilitating opportunities for seasonal and full-time employment.“

Scarpitti said that any costs for such temporary housing would be borne by the City of Toronto.

Actress who made movie about old man who likes underage girls doesn’t want new movie released because producer accused of sexual misconduct

Actress Chloe Graze Moretz chose to participate in this movie in which she portrays a 17-year-old girl who falls for a 68-year-old man with a reputation for dating underage girls. From RottenTomatoes:

“Louis C.K.’s I LOVE YOU, DADDY is a bittersweet comedy about successful TV writer/producer Glen Topher (C.K.), who panics when his spoiled 17-year-old daughter China (Chloë Grace Moretz) starts spending time with 68-year-old Leslie Goodwin (John Malkovich), a legendary film director with a reputation for dating underage girls. Hesitant to say no to his daughter-an action which might stem the steady stream of “I Love You, Daddy” endearments with which China manipulates her father-Glen exasperates the host of women who circle his life, including his combative ex-wife Aura (Helen Hunt), feisty ex-girlfriend Maggie (Pamela Adlon), and his long-suffering production partner Paula (Edie Falco).”

No all of a sudden she’s concerned about the reputation of the movie producer?

Guess the movie, and its content, didn’t bother her too much when she was getting a paycheck. But a paying gig helps pay the bills, right Chloe?

From Hollywood Reporter: Chloe Grace Moretz believes that I Love You, Daddy, the film she stars in alongside Louis C.K., should not be released.

“I don’t think it should be. I think it should just kind of go away, honestly,” the actress told The New York Times about the pic’s release in a story published Friday.

The New York premiere of I Love You, Daddy was canceled just hours before the event was set to begin in November. The Times published a story later that day that included testimonials from five women that accused C.K. of sexual misconduct. The film’s distributor, The Orchard, announced that it would not move forward with the release of the film. Moretz is currently on the big screen in the gay-conversion therapy film The Miseducation of Cameron Post.

The Face of US Socialism: From the Erasure of American History to the Rise in Satanism

Over the last few years in the US, various cities have removed Confederate monuments, statues, and memorials of anything supposedly to do with slavery and or suppression. This has and is still being done under the direction of various chapters of Black Lives Matter and ANTIFA via those in local office who are members of these groups.

Much of the funding for removing these historical items is through anonymous donors, so we are told by city and county officials at the time, such as in the case of the removal of Confederate monuments in the city of New Orleans a few years back. However, most of us are aware that the funding comes directly from George Soros or through a business he owns.

The bottom line is, the removal of these artifacts have nothing to do with slavery or racial inequality as we are told, but in fact have everything to do with politics. We know this because the same people who want to remove historical artifacts want to remove the American flag. The main goal by these Soros funded groups is the erasure of American history in hopes of bringing a new dawn of Socialism to the country where the nation’s history is literally rewritten to fit the creed and morals of a new Nazi-like state. It is not surprising that Soros is spending billions in the process, since he was a Nazi during Hitler’s reign over Germany.

Every Holocaust survivor alive today recognizes the parallels of politics in the US today to that of Nazi Germany.

Holocaust Survivor Kitty Werthmann Describes Parallels Between Nazi Germany and the United States

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6vzum53kwY

The most absurd fact about the removal of US history is the rapid rise in Satanic statues and occult symbols across the country. Recently, the Satanic Temple unveiled a statue of Baphomet, a goat-headed winged creature at the Arkansas State Capitol in protest of the Ten Commandments monument there. This is only the most recent erection of Satanic statues.  However, as many have gone up over the years in various parts of the country.

Denver International Airport is the largest example, having Satanic plaques, murals, and statues all over it.

Aside from Washington DC, which is filled with occult and Satanic symbols, many exist in cities and counties nationwide. Call them Masonic, Illuminati, etc, they are Satanic all the same.

In Georgia, there is what is known as the Georgia Guidestones.  Erected in 1980, it is a Stonehenge-like monument which depicts the creed of the New World Order in population control, eugenics, internationalism, etc. and is also considered Satanic by many religious organizations.

What the erasure of American history and the rise of NWO Satanic occultism means is the push by Leftist Socialists to transform the US from a free constitutional nation of Christian values and high moral standards to a border-free melting pot of deviant diversity. This transformation in the US began the first day Barack H. Obama took office and continued throughout his presidency. It is what he meant when he stated, “We are 5 days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America” in a 2008 speech.

What Obama’s real intentions were, and still are, since he is still working on the sidelines with the Clintons and others still in power in Washington, is the total destruction of the USA as we know it. Just recently, the Leftist Democrats, along with RINOs who support them, had to come out of the closet and admit to actually being Socialists.

As Americans who value the USA and all it stands for, we must refuse every Socialist attempt to destroy our country. Not one single monument, statue, or memorial having anything to do with American history should be allowed to be taken down. Not one American flag can be allowed to be burned by anyone without repercussions for doing so, and everyone who wants to fly it should do so proudly. The National Anthem should be an integral part of every public educational institution in the country.

The time is long past for those of us who believe in the USA traditionally to refuse any form of Socialism, period and penalize those who push the agenda. We can recognize the difference between those who advocate Socialism from those who have a legitimate concern for real problems. A great example of the promotion of Socialist politics in the guise of a concern is the NFL players who take a knee instead of standing for the National Anthem. We know they are only making a political statement because they say they take a knee in protest of inequality, the police, and past slavery of blacks and minorities. Yet, they do absolutely nothing during the offseason to rectify it. If they really were concerned, they would be out doing what they can to correct the problem. Thus, what we have here is politics, nothing more.

We simply can not allow Socialism to take over the country and make every sacrifice ever made by everyone who has served in the US military since the beginning, in the name of freedom to become null and void.

EVIL: Minnesota Democrats endorse WOMEN BEATER DNC Chair Keith Ellison (Hakim Muhammad) despite multiple attack charges

True to form, the “feminists” party abandon abused, beaten women in pursuit of their nefarious agenda. Just ask Paula Jones, Juanita Broderick and the army of Bill Clinton’s rape victims. Instead they start an hysterical national pussy hat movement against President Trump for some locker room talk. Evil degenerate hypocrites.

MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota Democrats are standing behind U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison and his bid for state attorney general, with the state party giving him an endorsement Saturday amid an allegation of domestic abuse from an ex-girlfriend.

Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Chairman Ken Martin said in a statement that Ellison “will be a champion for families and fight to hold powerful interests accountable.”

Ellison received 326 votes, or 82 percent of delegates on hand at the party’s state executive committee meeting Saturday, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.

The endorsement comes after Ellison won the Democratic primary just days after Karen Monahan said Ellison had once dragged her off a bed by her feet while screaming obscenities. Ellison has denied the allegation. Monahan has said she has video footage of the 2016 encounter, but has declined to release it. Ellison says the video does not exist.

ICE Arrests Man Driving Pregnant Wife to Deliver; Wanted in Mexico on Homicide Charges

An illegal alien who was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in San Bernardino, California, on Wednesday as he was driving his pregnant wife to the hospital to deliver a baby reportedly turned out to be wanted on homicide charges in Mexico.

The arrest of Joel Arrona-Lara stirred outrage, especially after an emotional report by CBS Los Angeles on Friday simply covered the arrest itself, and the reaction of bewildered mother Maria del Carmen Venegas, before receiving an explanation from ICE as to why it occurred.

However, ICE subsequently released a statement Saturday indicating that the man was wanted on homicide charges, according to the Los Angeles Times.

CBS Los Angeles produced an updated report including the homicide charges. It also included a Friday statement from ICE that did not mention the homicide charges, and a statement by Arrona-Lara’s lawyer, Emilio Amaya García, that declared the charges “unconfirmed.”

The lawyer also told the Washington Post “his client was not suspected of crimes within the United States, and denies criminal charges in Mexico. The lawyer also “questioned why Arrona-Lara is slated for removal but not extradition, where a more formal handoff to authorities would be made,” according to the Post.

Veneers then drove herself to the hospital after her husband was detained. “They put the well-being and safety of the mother and baby at risk,” García told the Post. She had a scheduled cesarean section.

Holding her newborn baby boy, Venegas, a mother of five, told CBS Los Angeles that her husband had never been in trouble with the law.

Kenya: NGOs luring young boys to go for circumcision without informing their parents.

Two pupils have been seriously injured in surgeries allegedly funded by non-governmental organisations.

The boys are admitted to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital.
There have been reports that some NGOs are luring young boys to go for circumcision without informing their parents. One of the boys, aged 10, cannot pass urine and has been fitted with a catheter. The second one, aged 11, is still bleeding. The 10-year-old claimed that three men picked him up and three other boys on Monday from a playground in Ahero, promising them gifts if they agreed to be circumcised.

He said the strangers drove them to a nearby hospital for the minor operation. “I did not know what it was all about, but we were convinced that it was good for us,” he said. Developed complications He claimed that at the sub-county hospital, the four were taken to the theatre one at a time. Three of them had successful operations and were taken home, but he developed complications and was referred to Jaramogi hospital. His parents claimed they did not known what was happening until they received a call from the hospital. “We were shocked to receive a call from the hospital in the evening that our son had been admitted after being circumcised,” said the boy’s mother. The parents found their son sharing a bed with another boy who had been circumcised three weeks ago. “The glands had been affected and there was also pelvic tenderness, but he is in a stable condition,” said Jennifer Apiyo, a nurse. The second boy’s father said he was present when his son was circumcised in school and that the NGO’s officials escorted them home in an ambulance. But the boy started bleeding and complaining of severe abdominal pain. “When the situation worsened, I tried in vain to get the contacts of the staff who administered the procedure. “One of the nurses who did the surgery disconnected my call and sent me a text message that he was busy. He has been avoiding me since,” the father said.
