Title IX complaint filed against ‘hate men’ professor

  • A Title IX complaint has been filed with the Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights against Northeastern University after one of its professors wrote an op-ed arguing that it “seems logical” for women to hate men.
  • Despite numerous requests, Northeastern neglected to conduct an internal Title IX investigation against Suzanna Danuta Walters, who chairs the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Department.

The nation’s oldest men’s group has filed a Title IX complaint against Northeastern University, prompted by a professor’s op-ed exploring the merits of hating men.

Why Can’t We Hate Men?” was published June 8 by Suzanna Danuta Walters, the chair of the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Department, who wrote that it ultimately “seems logical” to feel hatred towards men.

Walters later doubled-down on her remarks. In an interview with The Chronicle of Higher Education, she clarified that she “doesn’t hate men in some generic way,” but insisted that it makes sense for women to have “legitimate rage” against men.

“My point here was to say that it makes sense for women to have rage, legitimate rage, against a group of people that has systematically abused them,” Walters told the Chronicle’sAlexander Kafka.

After the controversy, some speculation was raised over whether Northeastern’s Title IX office would investigate. Although Walters is not scheduled to teach next semester, she does hold the highest leadership positioninherdepartment, andalsoadvises students.

UM-Flint Professor Mark Perry was among those to call for a Title IX investigation. In an email sent to Northeastern, he urged the school to investigate, asking, “How could a male student ever expect fair, just, and equitable treatment from Professor Walters?”

“How could a male faculty colleague applying for tenure and/or promotion…expect fair treatment from Professor Walters, after her public admission of hatred toward all men?” Perry added.

He did not receive a response.

The National Coalition for Men (NCFM) took a different route. In an August 15 Title IX complaint, NCFM argues that the Northeastern Women’s Studies Department is hostile towards men, citing Walter’s op-ed as indicative of the overall tone of the department.

“The article offers circumstantial evidence that the current ideology/composition of the [Women’s Studies Department] creates an overall hostile effect against male participants,” the complaint asserts, though NCFM clarifies that “this complaint does not request disciplinary action against the Chair.”

The group does, however, note that Walters’ op-ed is merely representative of a more deep-seated bias in the department, pointing out that all “political links” and “academic and professional sources” listed on the department’s website mention women and LGBT groups, but not men.

In addition, the complaint asserts that “external programs endorsed by the program express an explicit preference for women, augmenting the overall effect of discrimination” [emphasis in original].

NCFM President Harry Crouch told Campus Reform that NCFM filed the complaint after receiving feedback from its members on the East Coast. The complaint was sent to the Boston regional office of the Office for Civil Rights, which has jurisdiction over Northeastern.

“Suzanne Walters is the Chair of their Women Studies program, not some random schmuck,” Crouch explained. “Her openly hateful behavior is reprehensible, disgusting, and irresponsible. She should not be allowed to promote her misandry in an educational institution with impressionable minds.”

NCFM does not seek for Walters to be punished. Rather, it views Walter’s comments as symptomatic of a larger issue in academia: the preponderance of programs to support female students, even though men are now a minority of college enrollees.

In the coming months, the Boston OCR will decide whether to investigate. Per federal law, the office cannot confirm receipt of a complaint until it decides to launch an investigation, butprecedentis on NCFM’s side.

Yale University, Princeton University, and the University of Southern California are all currently under investigation by various OCR regional offices, all due to very similar complaints.

NCFM is the nation’s oldest group dedicated to men’s issues. Founded in 1977, NCFM describes itself as non-political and non-partisan, and is a 501(c)(3) based in San Diego, California. The group also has active chapters across the globe, spanning Israel, Mexico, Australia, and Canada.

Northeastern University did not respond to a request for comment. Neither did Suzanna Danuta-Walters.

Being forced by a corporation to have undesired sexual contact with strangers is “team building”,

We’ve launched the world’s first “Cuddle a Co-worker” event to provide a unique alternative to the standard team building exercises you’ll normally find…the event lasts an entire working day and involves co-workers cuddling in a “relaxation tent” designed to reduce stress and encourage team bonding…skin on skin contact…promotes Oxytocin and Serotonin release.  Oxytocin has physical and psychological effects on the brain, including influencing social behaviour and emotion, whilst Serotonin is the hormone which allows humans to feel happiness…co-workers will be required to cuddle each other in a variety of different positions and will need to switch partners every two hours – so that you have a chance to bond with everyone…there will also be a group cuddling session, as well as a conflict resolution cuddle session…

Sexual harassment

Sure, being forced to do this is gender neutral and “not because of sex” but how can this not encourage sexual harassment? “It’s okay to spend two hours (TWO HOURS!) cuddling with Stacy in accounting, but other than that, it’s not okay to touch her!” No, no, no. But Stacy gave consent, you say! Well, her boss told her to, which changes the whole dynamic. No.

Pressure

Maybe someone’s been sexually harassed in the past. Maybe someone doesn’t like to be touched. Maybe, just maybe, no one in their right mind would want to do this at work, but there’s pressure to participate. You should never, ever pressure anyone to cuddle with anyone else. Heck, I even support this Swedish court decision that said you couldn’t force someone to shake hands. And speaking of that, up next…

Religion

There are plenty of people whose religious beliefs prohibit them from cuddling with members of the opposite sex to whom they are not married. It would make me uncomfortable as heck, and I would say no, even though there is no specific “thou shalt not cuddle with a co-worker” commandment. Other religions may (and do) have prohibitions against even touching members of the opposite sex. And you do not want to get into a discussion “Gee, Bob, you’re saying this is against your religion, but you go to the same church Steve does, and he’s already cuddling!”

And if you limited it to same-sex cuddling, you’ve got discrimination problems, and it doesn’t take the sexual harassment potential away. I’m getting twitchy just thinking about all these problems.

Save your cuddling for date night–with your non-co-worker date. Let’s stick to team building activities that don’t make people feel icky.

Negotiations between Exhibition Place board and stagehands stall as lockout drags on

Negotiations between the city-owned Exhibition Place and nearly 400 locked out stagehands and technical staff have hit a roadblock and the union representing the workers says that the next round of talks scheduled for Sunday are “now in jeopardy.”

Talks between the Exhibition Place board and the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local 58 resumed on Friday but in a statement issued on Saturday morning the union accused the board of not being interested in reaching a negotiated settlement.

The union said that members of the board’s negotiating team walked away from negotiations after about 12 hours stating that they had a “clear mandate not to consider concessions on contracting out IATSE jobs on ExPlace grounds.”

“The main roadblock remains ExPlace’s refusal to take contracting out IATSE work at the 192-acre-site off the table,” the statement reads. “IATSE local 58 returned to the negotiations ready to bargain with proposals to modernize and find efficiencies in the contract but the city refused to budge on contracting out language. Requests from the union for examples of what kind of movement would need to be seen on this issue in order to move negotiations forward were ignored.”

Negotiations between IATSE Local 58 and the Exhibition Place came just a few days after a closed-door meeting of council to discuss the ongoing lockout.

Prior to that meeting, the chief executive officer of the CNE penned an open letter to Mayor John Tory and members of council advising them that the ongoing labour dispute could result in a loss of $1.5 million at this year’s fair.

In the letter, Virginia Ludy said that picketing at the gates to the CNE along with the “sustained negative social media activities of IATSE and the resulting media coverage” have depressed ticket sales.

In its statement issued Saturday, the union said that it was hopeful that the resumption of negotiations would lead to real progress but now believes that the Exhibition Place board is just “paying lip service to city council” and isn’t interested in a negotiated settlement.

“We are frustrated and disappointed by the fact that the mayor stated he wanted a deal that was fair for the city and workers but the board of governors does not feel the same,” Local 58 President Justin Antheunis said in the statement.

Coun. Mark Grimes, who is the chair of the exhibition place board, has previously said that while there are some issues that the board is committed to “standing firm” on, members do want a negotiated settlement.

In an interview with CP24 on Thursday, he said that the union just needs to recognizes that there have been changes in Exhibition’s Place business.

“We are in a different place now. The IATSE union came to be in the 1930’s and 1940’s when the grandstand was there, Bob Hope would come, the Beach Boys would come, but our business has changed. We are into fairs, meetings, events and the collective agreement does not reflect that,” he said.

Members of IATSE Local 58 have been locked out since July 20.

Report: Satanic Degenerate Asia Argento Sent Unsolicited Nude Photos to Male Friend

British comic Jeff Leach claims Asia Argento sent him unsolicited nude photos of herself.

Leach, who says he had a girlfriend at the time and did not appreciate the photos, told this story back in June during an appearance on a local podcast. Due to this week’s news about Argento settling a $380,000 underage sexual assault claim, the Leach story is just now making the rounds.

Asia Argento … she was part of this whole speech at Cannes recently about how “we’re coming for you.” That chick sent me a picture of her titties on Snapchat when I was with my girlfriend; she knew I was with my girlfriend — we were friends, and she just sends me this fucking video with her fucking tits out. And I replied, “You know, you can’t send me that shit…” She was like, “I do that to all my friends, I just send them videos and photos, it’s not sexual.” And I’m like “Get fucked, you know my girlfriend is not going to like this shit.”

[…]

That doesn’t mean she hasn’t been assaulted or hurt by bad people, I’m just saying that maybe [she’s] not the best fucking spokes[person] for it.

Argento, who, since October, was seen as one of the leaders of the #MeToo movement after she accused disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein of rape, was herself accused of a sexual assault involving a minor.

The alleged assault involved former child actor Jimmy Bennett, who says he was only 17 when the  2013 incident occurred in California, where the age of consent is 18.

According to Bennett, the episode was emotionally devastating because he has seen Argento as a mother figure ever since the two of them starred together in a movie (as mother and son) in 2004. At that time Bennett was only seven; Argento was 27.

Argento admits to paying Bennett off (out of fear and pity) but denies the two of them had sex. Photos and text messages subsequently published by TMZ (which Argento has not denied) say different.

Argento is also under fire after her statement about the payoff appeared to put the blame on Anthony Bourdain, her former boyfriend, the celebrity chef who committed suicide back in June.

The allegation Argento sent unsolicited nude photos of herself to a man with or without a girlfriend is also a serious one; an act of sexual harassment akin to opening your raincoat to flash someone without their consent.
